A little light humour
We hear some very good anecdotes from time to time from people who have had a ball renting one of our larger holiday houses, mansions or castles in Scotland.
One of our favourites was a story about a UK family hosting some American visitors for a family reunion at one of our castles in Argyllshire. As the night grew longer and the whisky perhaps had begun to flow a tiny bit too much, the Americans were warned that they should avoid a particular stretch of corridor, as it was shot across with laser-sensitive alarm beams. In order to get from one end to the other, they would have to wiggle and leap their way across, like the leather-clad Catherine Zeta-Jones in the movie “Entrapment”.
A confused elderly family member, who had missed this exchange, got up for an early-morning trip to answer a call of nature. He was confused to find a man and a woman crawling on their bellies across the floor, giggling madly.
“What on earth are you doing?” asked the old man, and they replied, “Ssshh! You’ll set it off!”
Apparently, even after the old man (sighing with resignation about the strangeness of foreigners and the excesses of youth) had stepped over them and continued on his way, the couple doggedly completed their journey to the bedroom the way they had started it.
We’re told the Americans staying in the castle got their own back. But that’s another story….
