John Lennon loved his Scottish holidays

When John Lennon wrote the words for “In my Life” for the 1965 Beatles album “Rubber Soul”, he was drawing inspiration on his happy memories of his own Scottish holidays. It is little known that he spent his childhood holidays with relatives in a croft at Durness in the north of Scotland.

As Stanley Parkes, John Lennon’s cousin, told BBC Scotland News in 2005 “we went fishing and hunting and John loved going up into the hills to draw. He loved this country; in one of the last letters I got from him he said he missed Scotland more than England.”

As the line of the song goes “there are places I’ll remember all my life”. If you wish to visit Durness and the John Lennon memorial garden created by the Beachgrove Garden team which opened in 2002, why not base yourself near Lairg in this Traditional Highland Lodge which offers superb Highland self-catering accommodation.
