World porridge making champion in 2009
The 16th annual world porridge making contest was held in Carrbridge recently and the winner of the 2009 “Golden Spurtle” trophy was none other than an American, Matthew Cox of Milwaukie, Oregon. On accepting the trophy he stated “we came over here to celebrate our passion for porridge with the Scots and we are elated to win”.
This year’s championship attracted entrants from around the world including the US, and taking part were chefs, hoteliers and caterers, all desperate to prove they could create the perfect bowl of steaming porridge.
If you are unsure what a “spurtle” looks like, then they are included within the recommended contents inventory to all the Scotts Castle Holidays venues. If you wish to attend next year’s competition at Carrbridge, why not stay nearby at this 16th century castle where you can even practice your own oat cuisine!
