Polar Bear in Scotland

The Highland Wildlife Park, near Kingussie, has just become the new home to a 27 year old Polar Bear, which has been transferred up from Edinburgh zoo on a permanent basis. With the assistance of the Territorial Army soldiers of 75 Engineer Regiment and the 51 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers, an enclosure has been constructed, the size of four football pitches, which is one of the largest in the world by bear-to-space ratio. The new resident seems to have taken to her new home well and is proving a success with the viewing public.

The Wildlife Park is home to many other interesting creatures, including the red panda, amur tiger, bison and many indigenous species and is a great day out for family trips. Situated off the main A9 Perth – Inverness road it is centrally placed in the Highlands to be part of a day trip for many families.

There are holiday houses of all sizes within this region, but a smaller house ideal for a family is the Traditional Country House which sleeps up to 11 people or for a larger family set-up, there is this Traditional Shooting Lodge for up to 16 people. Both within about 5 miles from the Wildlife Parka and ideal for family holidays.
