Scottish roots of the 53rd Prime Minister

Congratulations to David William Donald Cameron, on becoming the 53rd Prime Minister of Britain in 2010 and at the age of 43, the youngest since the Earl of Liverpool in 1812. It is well documented that he is Eton and Oxford educated, but what is less well known are his Scottish roots.

His father Ian was born in Huntly, in Aberdeenshire, and brought up at Blairmore House, which was built in 1884. Genealogists have traced the Cameron family’s roots back several generations to Ewen Cameron, grandfather of Sir Ewen, born in Dores, in 1775. The Cameron Clan has its stronghold within the west coast of Scotland and in particular Lochaber. Famously joining the Jacobites in both the uprisings in 1715 and then later in 1745. The Clan Cameron Association has more information for those wishing to find out more on their roots.

To find accommodation in the Lochaber area near Fort William, the Holiday Lodge with pool, situated at Ardgour is ideal for a family with children, for up to 8 adults. For larger groups, then the Grand Mansion with pool, which is also at Ardgour, is a large holiday house which sleeps up to 22 adults. Both have their own indoor swimming pool and additional games rooms, and are ideal as family holiday houses. Great venues to find your own Scottish roots.
