The CowalFest 2011

Cowalfest 2011, is being held from Friday 7th October until Sunday 16th October 2011, offering a programme of walks for all ages and all levels of fitness and interests. The Camanachd Cup Final 2011

The prestigious Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup is the Highland sport of shinty’s blue riband event and the final at Bught Park in Inverness on 17th September 2011, should be a spectacle well worth witnessing. The finalists, being separated by 3 miles geographically, are Kingussie and Newtonmore, but with one of the fiercest of rivalries within the sport historically. Whilst Kingussie have been in the ascendency in recent years, Newtonmore retain being the record holders of this trophy. Whilst the game should be thrilling, whoever wins, the celebrations will be well worth participating in.

Shinty is the ancient Gaelic game of Scotland, fast, furious and fairly dangerous, played with 12 men to a side, a ball and slightly curved sticks. Rules seem to be absent!

The 2011 Blas Festival

The 2011 Blas Festival will feature nearly 100 events across the Highlands of Scotland from 9th to 17th September 2011. This year’s festival takes in a unique concert at the top of Cairngorm Mountain, a great night in the terminal building at Inverness Airport and large scale events in the Highlands’ main venue, Eden Court Theatre in Inverness. As well as, a range of events in village halls and unusual venues like churches across the Highlands, from Caithness to Lochaber, and from Skye to Wester Ross, including traditional cèilidhs. 2011 Highland Games in Scotland

The Highland games season is upon us again for summer 2012 in Scotland, and is much enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. These Highland games generally include the following events: throwing the hammer, tossing the caber, putting the shot, tug o’ war, athletics/track and field events, and dancing and piping competitions. There are usually side shows along with trade and refreshment stands. Highland games take place throughout Scotland between May and September.

Coming up on 3rd August 2011 is the Isle of Skye Highland Games, with the Newtonmore Highland Games taking place on the 6th August 2011. With the looks of a French chateau, this is a lovely big old house that is ideal for entertaining a large group of people. With the addition of this wing apartment, the property can now sleep up to 23 adults. The Scottish Game Fair

One of the biggest rural events, the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust Scottish Game Fair takes place on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd July 2011 at Scone in Perthshire and is a popular day out for all the family.
